"It seems to me the book has not just aesthetic values-- the charming little clothy box of the thing, the smell of the glue, even the print, which has its own beauty. But there's something about the sensation of ink on paper that is in some sense a thing, a phenomenon rather than an epiphenomenon. I can't break the association of electric trash with the computer screen. Words on the screen give the sense of being just another passing electronic wriggle."

—John Hoyer Updike (b. 1932) American writer, Rabbit, Run, Rabbit at Rest

Internet Acceptance Use Policy

The library is a public place.  I will not use the internet to access any information or site that may contain pornographic, tasteless or questionable material.

I understand that all children under 18 years of age must have an internet permission slip signed by the parent or guardian on file before they can use the internet.

I will never, under any circumstance, give out personal information over the internet--such as my name, age, phone number, address, or any information at all that would help someone identify or locate me.

These computers are not linked to e-mail accounts.  If you wish to send or receive e-mail, I must have my own account or use a free web based e-mail service.

To use this lab, you must have a basic understanding of windows, the internet, and any application you choose to use.  Sorry, the library staff can not give computer lessons.  We can only offer simple instructions.

I will respect others while using the computers, keep the volume turned down low, and use a quiet voice.

Absolutely no food or drink allowed in the lab areas.

There is a 1-hour time limit.  If no one is waiting, you may sign up for an additional half hour.  You may do this twice only if no one else is waiting. There is a maximum 2-hour time limit per day per person.

When printing, your first five pages are free.  For each additional page you will be charged 20 cents.  All pages count.

I understand that if I violate any of these rules, I could lose my computer lab privileges.
