Montmorency
County was originally named Cheonoquet, after a Chippewa chief, meaning
"big cloud". The present day name honors Count Montmorency,
who fought for the colonies in the Revolutionary War. It is
a land of unspoiled wilderness, nestled
in the woods between
Alpena and Otsego Counties, a perfect vacationland with many
resorts and campgrounds. The abundant lakes and streams
offer Pike, Bass and Trout fishing, for winter visitors there is
snowmobiling and skiing. Montmorency has three libraries to meet
the growing needs of the community.
